Imposter Signs Viral Dancer and Filmmaker David Vu
Dec. 04, 2024
Viral filmmaker, dancer, and choreographer, David Vu, has joined Imposter’s roster for US representation.
David rose to fame after his dance videos went viral on TikTok – most notably, his choreography for Doja Cat ‘Get into It (Yuh)’, which became one of the biggest trends of 2021, and the 15 second cutdown of his Pop Smoke ‘AP’ choreography. Prioritising simplicity, collaboration, and distinctiveness, he cracked the code for internet fame and inspired a chain reaction of user participation.
Drawing audiences deeper into surreal worlds through creative use of framing, David choreographed, directed, and starred in his own video for Lil Simz ‘Gorilla’ – which brought in 1.5 million plays after being was reposted by the rapper herself – and played with movement and VFX for Hillari ‘New Beginnings’. He caught the attention of Caviar London, where he offered up his combination of discipline and creative instincts to artists and brands, being asked to recreate his ‘Gorilla’ video in a commercial for aromatherapy brand, ripple⁺ home, and directing the music video for CamelPhat and Nadia Ali ‘Endlessly’.
David Vu comments:
“I’ve always wanted to discover the US market, and after being in touch with Avtar and the team behind Imposter – the connection just felt right. We see eye to eye when it comes to taste and I’m so excited to see what we can do together.”
Avtar Kay, managing director and EP at IMPOSTER, adds:
“We're ecstatic to welcome David Vu to the Imposter family! His ability to blend movement with cinematic storytelling is something really special, and we can't wait to share that fresh perspective with everyone. David's background as a dancer and choreographer lends to his filmmaking style, which incorporates dynamic choreography, precision, and stunning, immersive visuals that pull you right in. He has developed a unique cinematic voice that merges the art of movement with texture, space, and emotion. His innovative approach is exactly what we need to push the boundaries of visual storytelling at Imposter as we continue to evolve, and we're so excited to see where he takes us.”
