The discarding and accumulation in nature of this waste, containing extremely high levels of single-use plastic, threatens ecosystems and our health. Ultimately such pollution has a major negative impact on the oceans, the seabed and biodiversity. This latest campaign is designed and produced by the agency ici Barbès for Surfrider Foundation Europe, and is being unveiled on July 20th, the same date as the latest revision of the Directive on packaging and packaging waste from the European Commission comes into force. This event also coincides with Plastic Free July, a global challenge to reduce daily plastic consumption.
