Gigantic Playground Appoints Josh Mooney as Chief Growth Officer

Jan. 27, 2026

Gigantic Playground, the experiential and creative technology agency within the CourtAvenue family of companies, today announced that Josh Mooney has joined as Chief Growth Officer, a newly created role designed to capitalize on momentum around technology-enabled real-world experiences.

Mooney’s appointment follows CourtAvenue’s recent naming of Robyn Freye as President and Chief Growth Officer, as the company formalizes a unified growth strategy across its portfolio of specialist agencies. Mooney will work closely with Freye to align growth strategy across experiential, commerce, media, data and AI-powered capabilities.

Mooney will focus on expanding Gigantic Playground’s client base, strengthening its market presence, and deepening the integration of experiential with CourtAvenue’s broader capabilities and client relationships. He will report to Gigantic Playground Founder and CEO Michael Maginnis.

Mooney said:

"Gigantic Playground has a rare mix of bold creative vision and real technical depth that immediately caught my eye. That combination allows the team to not only imagine powerful experiences, but to execute them under real-world pressure—whether that’s a live event, a retail environment, or a permanent installation. When paired with CourtAvenue’s data, media, and AI capabilities, the opportunity becomes even more compelling, and I’m excited to bring this offering to more clients."

Maginnis said:

"Josh is exactly the kind of leader we want helping shape the next phase of Gigantic Playground. He understands how to scale an experiential business and how to align creative ambition with the operational realities of delivering complex, technology-driven experiences. As brands invest more in fan and IP driven immersive experiences, Josh will help us grow in a way that stays true to who we are."

Mooney brings more than 20 years of experience spanning experiential marketing, creative technology and business development. He most recently served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Co-Head of North America at WongDoody, where he helped scale the agency as a part of Infosys and win major experience-led transformation engagements. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at Leviathan, EWI Worldwide and Juxt Interactive, delivering award-winning experiential and digital work for brands including Coca-Cola, Toyota, Amazon, General Motors, Verizon, McDonald’s and Kia. He has also taught graduate-level digital marketing at the University of Southern California.

Gigantic Playground has established itself as a leading creative technology studio, blending compelling storytelling with advanced digital innovation to produce immersive, real-world experiences. As the Experience Agency of Record for the Amazon Devices Retail team, Gigantic Playground delivers next-generation connected retail experiences—including the launch of Alexa+—at a global scale. In parallel, the team has been working behind the scenes with Universal Studios to help bring to life some of the industry’s most anticipated IP-driven, interactive theme park experiences.

Mooney’s appointment follows CourtAvenue’s recent investment in dedicated growth leadership across its portfolio of companies, including the hiring of Freye to formalize and accelerate enterprise-wide growth.

Kenny Tomlin, Co-Founder, CourtAvenue said:

"Experiential is one of the fastest-growing areas of marketing, particularly as brands look to create meaningful connections with customers in physical environments. Josh brings credibility and a clear understanding of how experiential, data, and AI come together to drive growth. Together with Robyn’s appointment, this marks an important next stage for CourtAvenue as we formalize our growth strategy and deepen integration for clients."

Mooney is based in Orange County, CA and begins his role immediately.
