The Clio Awards Campaign Captures the Moment Every Creative Knows Too Well
Apr. 21, 2026
Ahead of this year’s Clio Awards, the organization has partnered with global branding agency JKR to develop a campaign rooted in a familiar industry truth. Creative work is often difficult to explain to those outside of it. Drawing on the cultural weight of the Clio Awards, the campaign reframes that experience with a simple line, “They’ll never get it. Until you get it.”
The idea began with a simple observation: creatives often struggle to explain what they do to people outside the industry, leading to misunderstandings and blank stares. The Clio Awards, however, need no explanation. It serves as a shorthand that says it all.
Candice Pierson, Marketing Director at the Clio Awards said:
“The goal was to tap into a shared experience around recognition and understanding of creative work, and use that to drive engagement with the Clio Awards. Creatives have always struggled to articulate what they do, and this campaign leans into that truth. It shows how winning a Clio can make that value instantly clear.”

Stuart Radford, Executive Creative Director at JKR said:
“We’ve all been there, getting blank stares from relatives or friends as we try to explain what we do for the hundredth time. ‘They’ll never get it. Until you get it.’ playfully leans into that tension, positioning the fame of the Clio Awards as the solution, an insight that feels distinctly Clio.”
Told through a first person perspective, the campaign revisits this familiar exchange across different voices in the industry, as creatives try to describe their roles to family, friends, and acquaintances. Presented in black and white, a palette distinctive to the Clio brand, the work strips everything back so the words carry the full weight of the idea.
The campaign comes to life alongside the 2026 Clio Awards statue winners announcement and ceremony promotion today.
