Type Directors Club Announces 2025 Scholarship Winners

The Type Directors Club, the world’s leading typography organization, has announced this year’s winners for its annual global student scholarship programs.

There were two winners of the 2025 Adé Hogue Scholarship, sponsored by Monotype in commemoration of gifted young Chicago-based art director, designer, letterer, and avid cyclist Adé Hogue: Katherine Ispache, a student at California Institute of the Arts, and Charitssa Stone, who attends Yale University, School of Art.  

They will split the $5,000 scholarship, which goes to one or more outstanding BIPOC students globally in their junior year of college or first year of graduate or postgraduate school who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the design or use of letterforms.  

The $5,000 Beatrice Warde Scholarship, also sponsored by Monotype and named after the journalist, typographical scholar, and communicator on typography who was the first female member of the TDC, was awarded to Siyun Li, a student at New York’s School of Visual Arts.

The scholarship recognizes a woman college student globally in their junior year of undergraduate study whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication, and aptitude for typography, lettering, type design, and/or design criticism.  

The annual TDC Scholarship Program is open to juniors worldwide going into their senior (in the penultimate year of their undergraduate degree) year of college who demonstrate exceptional talent, sophistication, and skill in typography.  This year, six $1,000 and four $500 scholarships were awarded as follows.

$1,000:

  • Qianyi Wang, School of Visual Arts
  • Natalie Ho, Rhode Island School of Design
  • Eleanor Yang (Shuxuan Yang), ArtCenter College of Design
  • Gabrielle Mae Grimm, School of Visual Arts
  • Moe Ebii, Parsons School of Design (The New School)

$500.

  • Pei Lin Tai, School of Visual Arts
  • Suyoung Han, Hongik University 
  • Susan Arian, Bauhaus-University Weimar
  • Indrani Sant, MIT Institute of Design, Pune, Maharashtra

In addition to the financial awards, the winners of each scholarship receive a one-year TDC student membership, which includes a copy of the TDC Annual The World’s Best Typography®, and complimentary admission for all TDC events.
