Sep. 09, 2024

Work Editorial has added editor Chris Murphy to its incredible roster of award-winning Film Editors. His sharp visual storytelling skills make for dynamic cuts, from automotive spots to comedic commercials and independent films. Based in Toronto, Ontario, Murphy is one of the founders of Outsider Editorial in Canada. He is signed with Work Editorial for representation in the U.S.

Murphy’s career in the industry began as a tape operator before transitioning to post-production. Instantly tapping into the heart of the story, Murphy’s stylistic craft distills beautiful shots into one captivating cut that draws audiences in through textural cinematography and powerful sound design. His vast portfolio of work contains a multitude of genres, delivering diverse films that vary in tone, including action-packed commercials, meditative spots, feel-good family fare, and large advertising spectacles. Murphy has edited films for high-profile global brands like Nike, Toyota, Audi, Infiniti, Jeep, Corvette, Garmin, and Cheetos, among many others.

His work has won many industry awards, including Dove’s “Courage is Beautiful,” which won an Industry Craft Grand Prix and a Gold Lion in the same category at Cannes Lions. He also edited the Grand Clio-winning spot “Sisters in Sweat” for Gatorade, starring famed tennis player Serena Williams. Murphy’s other accolades include wins at One Show, D&AD, AICE, Marketing Awards, and Webby Awards. Additionally, he’s edited short films that have premiered and won at acclaimed international film festivals such as Tribeca, TIFF, Austin, and SXSW.

Murphy remarked:

“Work is the best of the best. I’ve always wanted to craft alongside these storytellers. I’ve long admired many of the editors at Work Editorial for years—Rich Orrick, Stewart Reeves, Biff Buttler—I could go on. I’m thrilled and honored to rank amongst these incredible editors.”

Erica Thompson, Work Editorial’s East Coast Managing Director, added:

“Chris is a tremendous talent, and we’re very fortunate to have him with us at Work. His cuts are masterful and speak to his power as a storyteller. You can tell how much he loves film with every editorial choice he makes. His passion for the craft is infectious, and we look forward to seeing what he creates at Work.”
