Throw away the instructions.
Step 2.
Assemble the furniture as you see fit, and if there’s any screw, nail, or any other part left over, it means it wasn't needed for the furniture and the manufacturers included it just to be on the safe side.
Step 3.
Sit comfortably in the chair you just assembled and accept the praises from the whole family. Well, maybe not too comfortably because that screw might not have been extra after all.
