Architecture & Design Film Festival Celebrates 15th Season with an Unmissable Cinematic Showcase

Aug. 18, 2023

The Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF) embarks on its 15th season, delivering a captivating cinematic experience that celebrates the world of architecture and design. With an impressive line-up of films and programming, ADFF invites audiences to explore the vibrant landscape of architecture & design, where visionary concepts, sustainable solutions, cultural narratives, and personal journeys converge.

The 2023-2024 season of ADFF commences with ADFF:NY, October 12-14 during the city-wide celebration Archtober, followed by ADFF:Toronto from November 1-4, ADFF: Vancouver from November 9-12, as well as ADFF: Chicago from January 31 to February 4, 2024. ADFF will announce additional Festival cities in the near future.

According to ADFF Founder and Director Kyle Bergman, AIA:

"When programming the festival, we usually don’t have a goal in mind other than presenting the best films possible and that certainly is the case this year. Themes emerged during the process including the ever-present topic of climate change, a spotlight on architecture in South Asia, and prominent women in architecture."

ADFF:NY screenings will take place at the iconic Village East by Angelika. The opening night on October 12 will feature the US premiere of Modernism, Inc. This compelling documentary delves into the legacy of Architect Eliot Noyes who not only made a lasting impact on architecture, but also shaped the design ethos of major corporations including IBM. Following the premiere, an opening night party will take place at the Moxy Hotel in the East Village. Alongside the diverse selection of films, the Festival will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of My Architect with a special screening on October 14. The beautifully remastered film will be accompanied by a Q&A session with Director Nathaniel Kahn.

Some highlights from the film program include the US premiere of Rehab From Rehab – which examines the integral role design plays in fostering spaces of well-being and recovery – as well as that of The Power of Utopia – Living with Le Corbusier in Chandigarh. The latter film uncovers the creation of Chandigarh by Le Corbusier through the lives of its residents and their connection to a visionary utopia of modernity. The screening will be followed by a discussion about utopia with podcast host Avery Trufelman. Furthermore, the Festival will showcase Clodagh – a namesake documentary that chronicles the life and career of the design icon, tracing her bold choices of defying societal norms. The icon herself will be present post-screening for an engaging Q&A.

The 15th season of ADFF promises an indelible exploration of architectural marvels, design innovations, and the mesmerizing narratives that accompany them. In each city, the films will be preceded or followed by introductions and insightful Q&As from special guests. The complete Festival program, including speaker line-up and dates for ticket sales will soon be announced online at adfilmfest.com.
