ASDA Opens the World's Smallest Christmas Market

ASDA Opens the World's Smallest Christmas Market

Nov. 07, 2024

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of its delightful Christmas advert starring a cast of pint-sized heroes - which has seen Max, Gnibbles, Gnorma, Gnicky and Gnarla take the UK by storm - Asda today launches the first-ever Christmas market, designed for gnomes!

Fast on the way to becoming the hit Christmas characters of 2024, with over 1m views on YouTube already, the gnomies have descended on London’s Southbank to open a Christmas market like nothing seen before. And that’s because the stalls, manned by (super flexible) real-life people, are just three and half feet high.

Open today and tomorrow (7th and 8th November), The Gnome of Christmas Market, while built specifically for gnomes – is open to everyone, and Asda is expecting an influx of people eager to get their hands on a whole raft of Christmas treats, as well as the chance to win a special Christmas gnome and a bag of seasonal goodies!

Asda’s Gnome of Christmas Market will feature five miniature market stalls, all tailored to match the individual passions and personalities of each gnome, offering members of the public the chance to enjoy a range of tantalizing festive tasters from the Asda and George Christmas collections whilst rubbing shoulders (or should that be noses) with the stars of Asda’s Christmas advert…

Head gnome Max will be managing the ‘Magical Mince Pie’ stall, the perfectionist party planner Gnorma will be hosting a ‘Glorious Grazing’ extravaganza, whilst gourmet gnome Gnibbles, will oversee the ‘Christmas Cheese’ section with an array of delicious chutneys. In addition to these traditional Christmas favourites, surfer dude Gnarla will dish out an assortment of luxurious fish canapes at the 'Festive Afternoon Sea' stand, while Gnicky, our fantastical fashionista, will be leading the ‘Deck The Halls’ Christmas decorations stall.

There’s also the chance to win a festive goody bag filled with sweet treats curated by the gnomes, by playing the Asda Gnome Game on TikTok. Help our Asda Gnomies catch baubles to decorate the big Christmas tree by moving left and right to direct your gnome to catch the falling baubles in their basket! Make sure to watch out for flying snowballs though or else it’s game over!

David Hills, Chief Customer Officer at Asda, said:

"It’s been fantastic to see the response to our Christmas campaign and we’re thrilled that the nation seems to be falling in love with our gnomes, so what better way to celebrate than to bring some playful Christmas cheer to London with our gnome-sized market. Visitors will not only get the chance to be up, close and personal with our pint-sized heroes, they’ll also get to sample some of the incredible products which make up our Christmas range in a really fun and unique way.”

Asda’s Gnome of Christmas Market will run for two days: from 11am to 7pm on 7th November, and 11am to 4pm on 8th November, located on Queen’s Walk outside the Southbank Centre.
