Editorial Company Papercut Announces its "Official" Debut
Oct. 02, 2026
Papercut spent its first 23 months of operation in soft-launch mode, but was anything but quiet, landing several Super Bowl spots, earning a Sports Emmy, and racking up marquee brand work along the way. Now, what began as an idea hatched over lunch between Papercut’s originators Biff Butler and Brandee Probasco has grown into a formidable group of editorial talent doing global-scale work. With a growing slate of standout projects, they’re making things official with a refreshed brand identity and lovely new website.
A bicoastal editorial company with teams in Los Angeles and New York, Papercut’s roster includes editors Biff Butler, JD Smyth, JK Carrington, John Resner, Zoey Peck, Eric Alexander-Hughes, Mike Bertin, and, most recently, Ben Corfield. The company’s through-line is a belief that the edit sets a film’s tone and emotional rhythm, and that editing is a team pursuit rather than an individual one, led by emotion and shaped early by sound and music instead of treating them as an afterthought.
That sensibility shows up across their recent work. During this year’s Super Bowl, Papercut was the edit house behind three of the night’s most celebrated spots: “Yes Bueno” for Kinder Bueno from Anomaly NY, “Athletic Intelligence” for Oakley x Meta from Mother LA, and “Champion” for the NFL from 72andSunny, which won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Public Service Content: Sports—Papercut’s first and Biff Butler’s fifth. Beyond their Super Bowl work, Papercut has collaborated with agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy (Nike, Ford), WPP Open X (Coca-Cola x FIFA), and top brands including Target, Subaru, Apple, Nike, and most recently, Kalshi.
Brandee Probasco, who is also the company’s Executive Producer & Managing Director said:
"Biff and I share the same values — in life and in what we want this place to be. We set out to build something people want to work for as much as with, where the work can feel good even when it's hard. I think that’s why clients come back — for the who, not just the what — and it’s how we pay forward the opportunities we were lucky to get early on."
Biff Butler said:
"Papercut started as an idea Brandee and I had over lunch, and then it just… existed. We were awarded our first project before we even had an LLC, and we’ve been going non-stop ever since. Somewhere in there, I guess we forgot to formally introduce ourselves; people have literally been emailing my personal site because they couldn’t find the company. So consider this us admitting we exist. Ripping the band-aid off, so to speak. All this is just evidence that you can make anything you want, as long as you just do the thing. It’s been thrilling to have gathered such an incredible group of people to do it with. Mind-blowing, really."
