Get Hung up on Quirky New Clothes Peg-Based Art Exhibition from "We Are PI" Creative Rick Chant
Nov. 05, 2025
An intriguing new art exhibition celebrating the clothes peg, that most democratic but underrated domestic must-have, is opening on 7th November in Amsterdam.
"Whose Washing Line Is It Anyway? Clothes pegs of the rich and famous", was conceived by artist, author and creative Rick Chant, co-founder of Amsterdam-based creative agency WE ARE PI.
The exhibition encompasses 15 works featuring apparel pinchers from stars including Morrissey, Brian Eno, Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift.
Each artwork tells a story associated with said celebrity, but ultimately, it’s a bit of fun to elevate and celebrate the clothes peg - a classic piece of indispensable design. that’s a humble titan of everyday engineering.
Highlights include the pegs that American rapper and fashion designer Kid Cudi used to hang out his Balmain jeans and the pegs R&B star Sisqo used to hang out his thong, thong, thong, thong, thongs.

Rick Chant explained:
“This is a dazzling collection of clothes pegs, each with a story too good to be true. When fame meets fabric softener, prepare for dirty laundry to be aired and a few reputations hung out to dry.”
He added:
“Much like the Coke bottle, an object so egalitarian it graces both gilded penthouses and student flats, the clothes peg is a great leveller. Whether you’re a pauper or a prince, peg you must. Fabric gets filthy and we are united in our laundering. Whether it's wood or plastic, it’s a design classic. This is not just an exhibition. It’s a celebration of humanity, hung out on the line for all to see.”
‘Whose Washing Line Is It Anyway? Clothes pegs of the rich and famous’ is airing from 6pm, 7th November in the Tea Room, We Are Pi, Oranje Nassaulaan 7, Amsterdam.
