In 2021, the National Museum of Denmark opened its doors to an ambitious exhibition on Denmark’s Viking Age. Displayed were an unparalleled number of viking artifacts on one side and a 17-minute film commissioned for the occasion on the other. Directed by revered Danish filmmaker Martin de Thurah and produced by Bacon, the film is a time machine transporting viewers to a different era. A poetic, almost impressionistic piece crafted around the historical accounts of Bjørn Ironside’s attempt to conquer Rome.

Both the exhibition as a whole and the film specifically garnered wide acclaim in the Danish press, with critics commending the combination of history and epic cinema.

After staying open for more than two years, the exhibition finished its run in October 2023, and now The Raid is finally available to watch for anyone via Martin’s Vimeo profile.
