SKUNK Partners Welcomes Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley as Directors
Dec. 19, 2024
SKUNK welcomes Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley, acclaimed filmmakers, to its roster of visionary talent. Known for their award-winning films Sing Sing and Jockey, Kwedar and Bentley have been heralded for their unique approach to storytelling as it merges social impact with compelling cinematic narratives.
Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley have emerged as bold, unmistakable voices in cinema today. Their storytelling anchors them deeply in high authenticity and emotional depth, carrying real-life subjects to the screen. Their most recent feature, Sing Sing, world-premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival to widespread acclaim. Directed by Kwedar, co-written by the two, and produced by Bentley, Sing Sing follows Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo and Oscar nominee Paul Raci with a cast made up primarily of formerly incarcerated people. Inspired by the Rehabilitation Through the
Arts program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York, Sing Sing was acquired by A24. Colman Domingo already has won a Gotham Award for Outstanding Lead Performance, and breakout star Clarence Maclin a Gotham Award for Outstanding Supporting Performance. The film also won a Tribute award for Social Justice and the National Board of Review award for Best Adapted Screenplay, the AFI Top 10 films of the year, as well as nominated by the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Feature, Best Lead Performance and Best Supporting Performance, five Critics Choice nominations including Best Picture, and Best Performance by an Actor for the Golden Globes.
Kwedar and Bentley first burst onto the scene with Kwedar’s directing debut the 2016 thriller Transpecos, which won them the SXSW Audience Award. Their 2021 film Jockey marked Bentley's directing debut and premiered at Sundance, where Clifton Collins Jr. took home the Special Grand Jury Prize for Best Actor. Sony Pictures Classics released Jockey, which also won AFI's Audience Award and grabbed two nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards. Their latest film, Train Dreams, directed by Bentley and starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones will premiere at Sundance 2025.
Bentley & Kwedar said:
“Joining SKUNK is an incredible opportunity for us as filmmakers. We’re inspired by the work SKUNK is producing in the commercial space and are excited to push our creative boundaries with a team that shares our passion for impactful storytelling.”
