Arts & Sciences Welcomes Director Taso Alexander

Apr. 22, 2024

Arts & Sciences has signed director Taso Alexander to its roster of talent in the US and UK. Based in Toronto, Alexander first honed his skills as a performer, appearing in several comedic campaigns before diving into the world of casting. Through studying the process from multiple angles, his directorial sensibilities are expertly dialled in and reliably funny.

Alexander’s innate sense for deadpan can be seen in commercials for RBC Insurance, Molson Coors, and most recently Burger King out of BBH London. His inclination towards downplayed absurdity shines through in his recent smash hit micro-short “Special Skills,” which brought his precise comedic timing and physical comedy to wider audiences - including the 1.4 Awards. Through purposeful camera movement and his ability to direct actors in hilarious yet grounded performances, Alexander continually delivers artful and deeply nuanced films.

The Vimeo Staff Pick “The Spadina House” debuted Alexander’s narrative dexterity. The film wordlessly tells the story of a magical Victorian family and their father, who’s significantly more lackluster. Alexander’s background in casting and acting informed the series “Adventures In Casting,” which wryly covers all-too-relatable snafus in an array of unfortunate auditions.

On signing with Arts & Sciences Alexander says:

“They treated me to Dan Tana’s and ordered the mozzarella sticks, which sealed the deal. Appetizers aside, I’ve long admired Arts & Sciences’ history of comedy, and their UK and U.S. offices are unified in their artistic vision. There’s something to having a team that’s all moving in the same direction and on the same page.”

Arts & Sciences Managing Director, Executive Producer, and Partner James Bland says:

“I was in a hotel in Budapest when I discovered Taso and reached out immediately. I was so excited about him joining Arts & Sciences that we FaceTimed in the middle of the night because of time zone differences. I knew we had to have him on our roster immediately. Taso is instinctively funny and a virtuoso with comedy. We’re very excited to have him on board.”
