Hugo&Dean and Banjoman Show The Fight Doesn't Stop For Health Workers

The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center is a nonprofit medical services provider working on the frontline against Covid-19 in Brooklyn, New York. The doctors and nurses who work there are fighting a daily battle on the frontline to save people’s lives whilst putting their own at risk. Creative Directors Hugo&Dean embarked on a 60” script that would honor their sacrifice and hard work, epitomising their tenacity.

Working closely with director at Banjoman, Dermot Malone the script was put into production in a matter of days. In the film, a nurse in boxing gloves fights against an unseen enemy as captivating visuals and abstract colours represent the multitude of ever-evolving challenges they face. Like a boxing match against two formidable opponents, doctors and nurses never back down from the fight day after day.

Creative Director, Dean Woodhouse says:

“The magnitude of Covid is overwhelming. We wanted to choose a hospital to focus on, honoring the fight doctors and nurses are facing daily. Brookdale Hospital in Brownsville, Brooklyn felt right to us, they’re on the frontline.”

Dermot Malone, Director at Banjoman comments:

“I had been chatting to Hugo+Dean for some months about a few ideas and then, out of nowhere, the world was hit with the Coronavirus. To see what was happening here in Ireland was devastating, but what I found really harrowing were the scenes from New York. The guys sent the script and I just got the team together and got it shot, it was so important. I have family and friends in NYC, so feel a deep connection to the place and the Hospital chosen have been very much on the front lines. We shot with social distancing protocols here in Dublin, with a skeleton crew of trojan talent. Dee Fitzpatrick is an actor and MMA fighter, who I reached out to and was incredibly kind to come on board. Then to have Blacksmith VFX and Chris Parks get involved, along with Denis and the rest of the post team, it was a pleasure to work on. I hope it helps show the front liners of the world that we see them, we recognise the fight they are in and we are forever indebted.”
