Kickbase Shifts Focus from the Field to the Stands During FC Barcelona vs. AS Monaco
Aug. 14, 2024
The German fantasy football platform, which allows users to view player statistics in real time, grabbed attention during FC Barcelona's first home game thanks to a guerrilla marketing stunt carried out in the stands of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Kickbase had 20 people in the stands, staring at their phones to check real-time statistics of the FC Barcelona vs. AS Monaco players. Dressed in orange shirts these 20 individuals never looked up to see the action on the field, which sparked comments from journalists, influencers, and fans throughout the match.
During the 90 minutes of the match, the conversation on social media revolved around the fans looking at their phones, reaching 1,247,403 people before the final whistle.
After the game, the brand released a video explaining the stunt and delivering this message: Kickbase is the fantasy football app that allows users to view their players' statistics in real time, without waiting for the matches to end.
The campaign was conceived by the Madrid-based agency We Are Social.
