Greenpeace

Greenpeace exists because this fragile Earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action. It needs YOU!

In 1971, our founders set sail to an island in the Arctic.Their mission was to stop a nuclear bomb.

It was a journey that would spark a movement and make history.

Nearly 50 years on, Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace.

Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action. Some people look at a forest, and all they see is lumber. But there are millions more who see a home, a heritage, a future. Around the globe, we are standing up for our communities and holding governments and corporations accountable.

The organisation consists of 26 independent national/regional organisations in over 55 countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Pacific as well as a co-ordinating body — but not headquarters — Greenpeace International.

In the administration of our employment policies and practices throughout the network, Greenpeace does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, age, personal appearance, family responsibilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, veteran status, matriculation, political affiliation, or genetic information.

We believe optimism is a form of courage. We believe that a billion acts of courage can spark a brighter tomorrow. Whether on the streets or at the ballot box, we hold the real power when we work together.

To that end we model courage, we champion courage, and we share stories of courageous acts by our supporters and allies.

A green and peaceful future is our quest. We invite people out of their comfort zones to take courageous action with us, and in community with others who share our commitment to a better world.
