Arts & Sciences Signs AI Director Oyl Miller to its Arts & Intelligence Roster

Arts & Intelligence, the AI-enhanced creative and production service arm of Arts & Sciences, welcomes Andrew “Oyl” Miller to its roster of AI-first creators. Miller brings a rare pairing of deep brand-side craft knowledge and early fluency in generative filmmaking and new technology, built over 15 years as a copywriter and creative director at Wieden+Kennedy and then as the first copy lead hired at Dapper Labs, the start-up behind the early NFT project NBA Top Shot.
A pioneer in the medium, Miller currently advises on several generative AI platforms to help shape features that keep artistry and craft at the forefront of these tools. His body of AI-driven film work includes a spot for cybersecurity software, Proofpoint, which aired nationally on ESPN. His cinematic shorts won the Luma Dream Brief creative competition from Luma AI with his films “Luma Taxi” and “Luma Suds,” earning him two entries into the 2026 Cannes Lions. Miller continues to push the medium forward with several original AI-generated projects like the sports comedy Deadball Academy, the AI-animated streetball series Smoke Check, and the Chet G. Petite microdrama co-created with author Cameron Day and directed by Miller.
Growing up in Portland, Oregon, as an all-state pitcher and first baseman in high school, Miller found his artistic worldview shaped by Wieden+Kennedy's presence in his hometown. His creative career began at Wieden+Kennedy 12, the agency's experimental advertising school, where he was mentored by Susan Hoffman, and he went on to work there for 15 years, spending more than a decade at Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo. There, he made iconic commercials with all-star athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo, Patrick Mahomes, and Naomi Osaka, as well as ads for brands like Nike, MLB, PlayStation, Google, IKEA, and Airbnb.
Philosophically, Miller believes in bringing your best idea and point of view to AI-directing, then using the tools to push your vision further. He believes the future we’re heading toward is one of hybrid production, with increasingly blurred lines between practical and generative tools, and all roads leading to making a great film. In addition to his AI-led work, Miller wrote and co-produced two award-winning narrative shorts directed by longtime collaborator Mackenzie Sheppard: the Academy-Award qualifying “Man in Phone,” an Academy Award-qualifying short, and the sci-fi festival hit “Donny the Drone” starring Guy Pearce.
Miller says, expanding on his perspective, saying:
“You can’t survive in baseball until you learn to have a relationship with failure. It hurts, but it’s the thing that teaches and sharpens you. That DNA translated almost perfectly to being a creative. I probably reject 95 percent of what I generate. AI makes it easy to create something that looks finished, but ‘finished-looking’ isn’t the same as good. That’s where taste comes in. The technology can generate endless possibilities. Deciding which ones deserve to survive is still the job.”
Mal Ward, Managing Director and Partner at Arts & Sciences, added:
“Oyl is a perfect fit for where we’re heading with Arts & Intelligence—it’s a new frontier, and we believe that our A&I artists will be among the most daring minds to chart that course. And Oyl’s creative pedigree combined with his visionary generative work makes for a powerful combination in this space. Anyone can create throwaway AI content, but not everyone can create stories that have a narrative arc and visual sophistication in the way Oyl can”
