Contigo Foundation Launches "Let’s Focus" Campaign on Spain’s Cancer Research Funding Gap
May. 29, 2025
In collaboration with Ogilvy, Fundación Contigo Contra el Cáncer de la Mujer, founded by renowned oncologist Dr. Javier Cortes, has raised the alarm about the critical situation of oncology research in Spain. On European Week Against Cancer, the Foundation highlights that cancer research investment in Spain is up to seven times lower than in other European countries, which directly impacts the development of new treatments and the improvement of patients' quality of life.
In response to this scenario, the Fundación Contigo launches the campaign "Let’s Focus", in collaboration with Ogilvy and with the support of Andbank Spain. This initiative seeks to make visible the alarming shortage of investment in oncology research that has defined the past decade. This lack of resources threatens to seriously compromise the future of a crucial area for public health. In this regard, the foundation emphasizes that more than 85% of cancer patients believe the current level of investment in our country is insufficient.
Alvaro Lens, Creative Director at Ogilvy Barcelona, said:
“At Ogilvy Barcelona, we are proud to collaborate with the Fundación Contigo on this important campaign. ‘Let’s Focus’ aims to shed light on a troubling reality and mobilize society to demand greater investment in cancer research for women. We believe that creativity can be a powerful tool to raise awareness and promote change.”
For his part, Dr. Javier Cortés, President of Fundación Contigo, stated:
“Every step forward in research brings hope to thousands of women. We cannot settle for what we have—we must aim for more knowledge, more treatments, and more future. This campaign is an urgent call to all of society to focus on what really matters: the science that saves lives.”
"Let’s Focus": A campaign that reveals striking data
In collaboration with Ogilvy and thanks to the support of Andbank Spain, the campaign "Let’s Focus" uses striking data on a landing page to highlight the harsh reality of the current situation through various tools. This initiative seeks to generate a conversation about the need to prioritize research as a fundamental tool for early diagnosis, more effective treatments, and personalized care for patients.
Fundación Contigo, driven by clinical and translational research, works tirelessly under a strong ethical code and with the vision that only high-quality research can defeat cancer. Through "Let’s Focus," the foundation makes a call to society, institutions, and policymakers to significantly increase investment in the fight against women’s cancer.
In this sense, Montse Almirall, Vice President of Fundacion Contigo, noted:
“As a patient, I know that behind every treatment we receive there are years of research. That’s why it’s so necessary that we ‘Let’s Focus’ on allocating more resources so that science can keep advancing, and more and more women can have a second chance.”
