Sensis Wins 2024 Gold Aster Award for Vision Zero Austin Campaign: "Speeding Changes Everything"

Jun. 13, 2024

Sensis, the largest minority-owned cross-cultural agency in the country, is proud to announce it has won Bronze in The 2024 Drum Awards in the Out of Home category for its impactful "Speeding Changes Everything" campaign, developed for Vision Zero Austin. Vision Zero is a comprehensive strategy aimed at eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries while promoting safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.

The Drum Awards for Marketing Americas seek to reward brands and marketing teams that truly understand their customers. Focusing on outcomes, not outputs, they are open to teams of any size who can prove their campaigns have had a measurable effect.

An Austin, Texas, resident dies in a car crash approximately every five days. The city has set out to improve that figure by implementing its own Vision Zero program and launching a new public safety push focusing on speeding’s worst-case scenarios to encourage residents to slow down—and potentially save lives. One challenge is that vehicle size, a significant factor in traffic deaths, can’t be readily changed, particularly in Texas. (The state leads the nation in pickup truck sales volume as of 2023, per iSeeCars data.)

By strategically deploying a combination of visually impactful OOH billboards and bus ads throughout the Texas capital, the campaign emphasized the dangers of speeding, garnering more than 15 million combined impressions. The OOH placements were further complemented by rush-hour radio spots and targeted social media ads to maximize exposure for the “Speeding Changes Everything” campaign.

Karla Fernandez Parker, Managing Director of Sensis’ Texas office said:

"We are extremely proud of our ‘Speeding Changes Everything’ campaign and honored to be recognized by The Drum Awards. This accolade is a testament to our team’s dedication to creating impactful, cross-cultural campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences and drive meaningful change in our communities. By highlighting the severe consequences of speeding, we aim to support Vision Zero Austin’s mission to save lives and promote safety and more equitable mobility for all."

Congratulations to all the finalists in this category, which includes major brands like Nike, Pampers, JCPenney and Nulo. Vision Zero has previously won a Gold Aster Award and a 2023 AdAge Modern Healthcare Marketing Impact Award.
