Creative Director and Filmmaker Kate Hollowell Joins More Media

Dec. 11, 2019

CEO/Executive Producer Stephen Buchanan and Executive Producer Blaize Saunders are thrilled to welcome to the More Media roster the very talented creative director and filmmaker Kate Hollowell.

Kate Hollowell practices her craft where music video, fashion, and film intersect. With a skillset spanning photography, comedy, and dance, Kate doesn’t choose one creative pursuit over another.  Instead she marries them together, fusing her editorial eye with innate comedic timing and an understanding of movement to direct uninhibited, lighthearted works of art.

A fresh voice in filmmaking, Kate began shooting fashion and music videos in 2017. She spent the past 10 years as an art director, content creator, and photographer for definitive fashion brands like Revolve, Barneys, and Reformation.

As a creative director for a multitude of brands, she was always drawn to the aspect of filmmaking on set, where, she says:

“There is so much more opportunity to tell a story or evoke an emotion.”

Throughout her career, Kate has also worked as an actor in independent films (The Color Wheel), and as a dancer in her own shorts and in music videos. As part of the locally well-known troupe, the L.A. City Municipal Dance Squad, as well as the front woman for an irreverent punk band, Kate’s directing strengths come from fusing her experience as a visual photographer and comedian all into one package. No matter what role Hollowell plays in her projects, she always uses her outsized creative expression to spread joy.

In her work with fashion names like & Other Stories, Lucky Brand, LPA, Burberry, FWRD and Poplinen, Hollowell has helped to forge well-crafted brand identities through her cinematographic storytelling. Through music videos for artists like Katy Perry, SASAMI, and Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, Kate brings a spirited approach to collaboration succinctly described by More Media’s Blaize Saunders.

Blaize Saunders says:

“If I had to pick just a few words to sum up Kate’s essence, I’d choose smart and playful. Kate’s directorial work demonstrates the same exuberance we see in her dance and comedy.  She knows how to draw in audiences through a mixture of humor, warmth and true bold engagement – and I can’t wait to see all the different avenues we can push her creativity into.”

When asked which of her films is her favorite, Hollowell points to Katy Perry’s “Harleys in Hawaii,” which she based off of an old motorcycle ad, and CGI influencer Lil Miquela’s Club 404 Collection video campaign, for which she was not only the director, but the photographer and director of photography as well. It’s this style of inspiring, next-generation content that Kate is looking to serve up more of at More Media, her first official representation as a director.

Kate Hollowell says:

“I’m ready to create some seriously exciting ad content with More Media, who has forged an amazing industry reputation for exactly that. I’ve collaborated with Blaize and Stephen in the past, so I know that working with them and the entire team is going to be simpatico in every regard.”

For Kate, the best way to cut through the densely packed space of advertising is by staying authentic through humor and lightness.

“In the age of constant media, you have to step outside of what is expected in order to excite and connect with the audience. My goal is always to set a fun, driven, and playful tone to bring out the best in all of us. Also, being able to make people laugh when you can through advertising is a huge plus!”
