Sophie Muller Directs Ethereal & Magnetic Alexander McQueen SS22 Collection Film Inspired By Storm Chasing

Feb. 18, 2022

"Chasing Storms", a stunning film directed and created by Sophie Muller in collaboration with creative director Sarah Burton, brings the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2022 collection to life. Award winning director & visual artist Sophie Muller worked closely with Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, on the SS22 film inspired by storm chasing, which is also the theme running through the "London Skies" collection .

The Sui Generis casting of models by Jess Hallett move against the very backdrop that inspired the clothes they are wearing. They are unique but unified by the magnificence of the sky above them.

Sarah Burton says:

"I love the idea of embracing the mystery and unpredictability of the sky, the fact it is always moving, always changing. I look out over London from our studio where the views are incredible and represent our home throughout history: from St Paul’s Cathedral to the London Eye. The sky against which those familiar monuments appear may be calm and restorative at times and menacing at others. For me, the tension between the two is extremely inspiring. It also evokes the paradoxes that have always been at the heart of Alexander McQueen."

Executive Producer Juliette Larthe comments:

"Sophie used hand crafting film shooting and developing techniques combined  with  state of the art technical cameras to create the revisionary films for Sarah Burton, Sophie brought long-time collaborator, film maker Ben Rivers and Cinematographer Rina Yang with her, which gave her the tools to create a singularity of vision for the collection that Sarah created for this season. Sophie captures the models, garments and skies in a series of films that embody the artistry, passion and power that Alexander McQueen has been synonymous with since inception, and that Sarah has harnessed to create a global culture with a singularity unmatched by another British creative director / designer aside from Dame Vivienne Westwood. It was wonderful to be involved and collaborate with Gainsbury & Whiting, who are unparalleled in their conceptions and executions of McQueen shows."
